Create Route

You can open the route planner from several places in the app. In the Plan tab, you can search for a location, select it, and tap "Route here". You can also tap directly on any place on the chart and then select "Route here".

Another way is to go to the Navigate tab, tap the start button, and choose "Create new route". You’ll also find the route planner in the My Skippo tab, where you can tap "Create new route" under Routes.

A route consists of several route points, with at least one starting point and one destination required. In the route planner, you can choose to search for a place, select your home harbor, mark a spot on the map, or use your current location.

You decide whether to create a route using automatic route planning, manual planning, or a combination of both.

Automatic Route Planning

When using automatic route planning, Skippo’s algorithm takes into account the safe depth, height, and average speed you’ve entered in your boat profile. These settings can also be updated directly in the route planner.

Route points help guide your route around obstacles or toward specific locations. Make sure to place them in navigable waters. For longer routes, it can be helpful to add additional route points to assist the algorithm in calculating an optimal path.

Once you’ve added two route points, a dashed line will appear between them – a visual indication that you’ve started planning a route. The line becomes solid as more route points are added or once the route is calculated.

Tap a route point to select it or tap anywhere along the route line to create a new point – it will be marked in white. Move a route point by dragging it to a new location, or remove it by dragging it to "Drag here to remove". If you change your mind, tap "Undo". When you're happy with the route, tap "Update autoroute".

You can then save the route, start navigation, or close the route planner by tapping ">". The saved route can be found in the My Skippo tab under Routes.

Manual Route Planning

With manual route planning, Skippo does not consider safe depth, height, or speed from your boat profile – you need to keep those in mind yourself. Once you’ve placed at least two route points on the chart, you can extend the route by pressing and holding on the chart, which allows you to build your route step by step. You can also tap the route line between two points to add a new point, which you can then move around.

Move a route point by dragging it to a new location, or delete it by dragging it to "Drag here to remove". If you change your mind, tap "Undo".

The dashed line that appears between route points indicates which points the algorithm would use if you decide to switch to automatic routing. If you’re not using automatic planning, you can simply ignore it.

When you're happy with the route, you can save it, start navigation, or close the route planner by tapping ">". Saved routes are available in the My Skippo tab under Routes.

Combined Route Planning

You can start with an autoroute and then manually adjust it to fit your preferences. Tap a route point to select it or tap anywhere along the route line to add a new one – it will be marked in white. Move the route point by dragging it to a new location or delete it by dragging it to "Drag here to remove". If you change your mind, tap "Undo".

The dashed line between route points shows which parts the algorithm will recalculate if you update the automatic route. This lets you guide how the algorithm plans your route. For example, you can add a point at a location you want to pass along the way.

Once satisfied, you can save the route, start navigation, or close the route planner by tapping "<". Saved routes are available in the My Skippo tab under Routes.
