The Nautical Chart

Skippo’s nautical charts are designed to resemble traditional paper charts, providing a reliable and detailed view of the waters. Thanks to vector-based technology, you can zoom in and out without losing clarity. You can also add layers of additional information, making planning and navigation smooth and adaptable.

Data Sources

To ensure accurate and up-to-date information, ENC data (Electronic Navigational Charts) is retrieved from multiple official sources:

Sweden:

Norway:

Denmark:

Finland:

Skippo presents chart data from official sources but is not responsible for its content. If you discover any errors or omissions in the charts, please report them directly to the responsible authority in your country. You can find contact information through the links above.

Depth Contours

To help interpret water depth easily, depth contours are used. These are indicated with colored lines and shaded water areas. The contour line shows the depth limit for that area. For example, a label "3" means the area outside the contour is deeper than 3 meters, and the area inside is shallower.

The color shading is based on the minimum depth provided in the S57 chart data for that area. Dark blue is used near the shore where it’s shallower, and white for deeper areas. The exact depth levels represented vary depending on local cartography and differ between countries and regions.

In areas covered by Hydrographica’s special charts in Sweden, the darkest blue water area indicates 0–2 meters. In other areas, it typically represents 0–3 meters.

Open Map settings to choose which depth contours you want to show on the nautical chart.

Chart Layers

Switch between different chart layers depending on your situation and needs. Whether you're planning a route, looking for a sheltered cove, or navigating from a harbor, there’s a chart layer that fits.

  • Nautical Chart – The standard navigation layer based on official chart data (link: see “Data Sources” section)

  • Hydrographica Special Charts – More detailed charts for Swedish coasts and lakes, showing 0–2 meter depth contours and marked mooring spots

  • Aerial Photos – Useful for identifying trees, cliffs, buildings, or trails

  • Land Maps – Provides a clearer view of settlements and road networks. Land map data comes from Eniro.
